Magnificat Home, a residence for low-income women, opened its doors on September 1, 2009, at 119 Clerk Street, Jersey City, NJ, 07305 (area map), in what was formerly Our Lady of Sorrows Convent, just off Claremont Avenue. A non-profit, Class C Boarding Home, it offers single rooms, three meals daily, and assistance with medication if required. Its mission is to provide a safe, beautiful, nurturing home for adult women.
We accept women 18 years or older who are free of a recent history of violence or substance abuse. No men or children. Applicants must be ambulatory, autonomous adults, capable of climbing stairs and responsible for their own lives.
Our monthly charge for room/board is $950.00, however we do accept SSI or SSD (minus $100 Personal Needs / Allowance) as full payment for those with no other income.We are NOT a temporary shelter, nursing home, group home, or a facility for rehabilitation, or specifically for pregnant or abused women. (We welcome pregnant or abused women, but we cannot receive children.)
We are a permanent home for low-income women, especially those dependent upon Social Security who may need assistance with medication.
